KEEP HUBPAGES CLEAN

WHAT IS HAPPENING TO HUBPAGES?
I'm sure I'm not the only person who has noticed and is concerned about the recent wave of unsuitable hubs being published on HubPages. It states in the faq pages the following:-
I want to write about adult topics, what is allowed?
Adult content is not allowed. Below are some examples of prohibited adult content. This should not be interpreted as exhaustive list of what is prohibited. If you are unsure if your content is allowed, please contact us for a clarification before publishing your hub.
The following are not allowed:
- pornographic images
- links to adult or pornographic sites
- discussion or promotion of sexual aids or toys
- detailed descriptions of sexual acts or practices
- excessive profanity
Would I be wrong then in assuming that hubs with titles like:-
- Why Penis Enlargement Exercises Are Not Enough
- Penis Enlargement Exercises And The Role Of Nutrition
- Cleavage
- LELO Inez Gold Vibrator - Sells for over $10,000
- LELO Iris Vibrator Review
- Rabbit Vibrator
- Masturbation made simple!!!
- Self-Pleasure - Masturbation May Have a List of Many Names But Can Truly Benefit A Couples Love Life
- Sex Toys Adult Toy Website www.VenusToys.com
- Sex in Prison
are against the rules of Hubpages? Please note that at least one of these titles is a direct link to an adult site. All links have been disabled in accordance with Hubpages policy.
ARE WE REALLY INTERESTED IN ALL THOSE BOLLYWOOD ACTRESS PICS?
Every day on HubPages several of these are published. I'm sure that some people are interested in these but is this what Hubpages is about?
- mallugirls hot and sexy
- hot and sexy samba girls
Most of the hubs similar to the ones above are just gratuitous titillation and I for one prefer a hub to have some interesting written content as well as nice pictures.
I am sure I'm not going to be over popular for writing this hub but with all the pornographic imagery and content available all over the World Wide Web, is there any need for Hubpages to be sullied with such content?
So come on Hubpages moderators be more vigilant. Let's keep it clean!

I'm with ya here Sue! The body is sacred. Our world is possessed by sin, we all are, but people lose respect for themselves writing things like that. The only thing left to do is to pray for those lost souls.
I quite agree with you, most of us are trying to give informative content, however there will always be some that kick against the system, then again we all have a choice we do not have to read them.
All hubbers obeying the rules should refuse to comment ,that way the unscrupulous will get the hint.
I agree and I haven't read some of the ones I commented on in depth. Just a quick glance was enough to show that they were violating the rules.
I agree with you on the Hot Indian Hubs, only because they are so abundantly annoying, not because of the content.
I agree that hubs should not be explicitly pornographic. Penthouse Forum-type writings should not be on here. The problem I have is your definition of explicit. What is explicit to one person is not necessarily explicit to another. This is a matter of opinion and taste.
I believe that as long as people do not go into great detail on some sexual subject then that hubber has a right to write about it. There should be hubs for every taste here on Hubpages.
If you don't want to read about certain subjects that offend you, then you can just scroll right on by.
yes I agree about all the Bollywood articles...its annoying!! and another one I can't stand...all the Acai berry articles....too many.
The Adult ones....well from what I have seen HP is cleaning them out and removing them all the time. I think they are on top off it. or at least working on it. But hubpages hasn't done anything about the Bollywood ones. They need to get crackin- to remove them!
Live and let others live :)
Thank you Misha.
jjrubio: I have never actually come across any "adult" hubs. Then again, I don't go looking for them either. You pervert!
That does bring up a good point though. I think the people that complain about the more mature content of Hubpages are the ones looking for that content. Then they get all hot and bothered by it and feel guilty for it. So they complain.
I second you my master, er dork. Obviously some hubbers don't have a sense of humor!
The problem with your last couple of sentences is that if you had it your way, the so-called "unclean" hubs would be "burned". What of the people that find some risque hubs interesting? As Hubpages is right now, you have the right not to read; but if you have it your way, the other hubbers would be SOL. That is a little selfish if you ask me.
I say leave it as it is. Nobody is forced to read any hub.
They make vibrators for rabbits?
Oh yes Teresa, pink ones for the Bunnies! :D
The truth is dirty. Keep hubpages clean or without thought? Without personal choice? You can't keep this bunch of freaks from thinking dirty thoughts and Sue Bailey if you want to take it upon yourself to be a cleaning lady, go ahead and try, these people know how to mutate.
Great idea toady! I'm thinking I can mutate into some hubber with lots and lots of picture hubs and nobody can touch me then - picture hubs are "as dirty" but def unflaggable!
Btw, I'm thinking nasty avatar and hubber name - they can't flag avatars and hubber names, can they?
who cares, just mutate again!
Not all hubs are dirty or unclean, as sex is a wonderful thing that has been going on forever, and expressing or speaking about it isn't a sin, sometimes others need to learn more about it, or how to keep their relationships spicy. My goodness www.helium.com allows you to post self-help articles of a sexual nature. www.amazon.com sells books in the U.S. of the nature so I personally do not see anything wrong with self-expressionism on HP so long as it is in good taste, and articles that I have read or seen have been. However Bollywood porno pics need to go, as the other night I found one that revealed a women's bare nipple and it is still on HP so if you are flagging then those should be booted as well.:)
Mutiny and mutation it is then!
Hubpage Mutant Ninja Tootles!
Pam: I am right there with you.:)
1st Amendment. United States. Freedom. Choice.
Or just turn a blind eye on those hubs that you know you won't be able to stand. I mean I do that on hubs that are sooooo boring they insult my sensibility far more than a sexy pic can. But there must be hubbers that enjoy them so I move on. Besides I let HP decide on the matter without pressuring them or imposing onto them what should be done.
you would think HP would want some more sexual adult content, sex is what sells. BTW , is dork done with that lotion bottle yet?
yes. it's with me. i'm not done yet, sorry :D
I forgot dork was a one minute man, hurry up would you?
Where's the bunny?
I thought Spryte had him :)
Cris and Toad: Check out my new article. Run Butt Naked, it isn't unclean however it is hilarious!!!:) Toad you are mentioned and you are famous. :)
I'm not bothered by the Bollywood sites. I don't find them interesting, but someone else might. If they attract traffic to Hubpages, I don't see the harm. I might even have a look, don't have to twist my arm.
It's tempting to titilate for traffic because as Trekkie Monster said in the Toni Award winning Broadway Musical, Avenue Q, porn is why the net was born. If you want that 18 to 35 male demographic, than a display of crumpets and muffins and writhing sweaty nakedness is a powerful and easy draw.
The problem with porn is, of course, meaning. Porn has no real meaning, other than the obvious. Life is too short to waste much time on it, and I think it is a worthy cause to keep HP free of it. There will always be plenty of porn out there if one really has a need. No need to necessarily have it here.
Here you go Gwendy, I'm done with it. ;)
*tossing rabbit gently*
Wash it off first.
Pam, did you clean him?
Porn has really no place in HP. But the problem is, some people have a different opinion on what is pornographic and what is just a naughty hub. And they take it upon themselves to be guardians - as if writing your own hubs and doing what you're supposed to be doing in HP in the firs place isn't hard enough.
I knew I liked that Cris for a reason.
Pass it down after it is clean of course.:)
You have said what is in my mind. There are several of us who are not happy with this changing image of HubPages. If one needs pornographic content and images there are several sites in the web where they can go to.
Can I use it for about thirty seconds after you're done?
LOL Tom you cracked me up :D
You certainly can..:)
I knew I could make somebody laugh here
It will be the happiest 30 seconds of my life
gwendymom cleans rabbit and passes him to AEvans
Sorry Tom, AE asked first.
Ooops...okay, all clean! *toss*
30 seconds Tom! LOL!
I have always found the bollywood hubs to be annoying for several reasons...1) the overabundance 2) the simplistic nature of any text that is actually written (rare to find but it is there in broken english) and 3) the fact that most of these hubbers have higher scores than I do and I like to think that I write more eloquently than that!
In terms of the supposed "adult" content...well I have always wondered about that, for two reasons...1) as many of you have stated it appears to be selectively monitered, somehow eliminating all the factual, informative, well written, or simply amusing hubs (Pest's masturbation hub for example - highly amusing, and actually kind of educational in terms of slang for self-love) and 2) I could have sworn that there was an amendment in the United States constitution supporting freedom of the press. This is a site that is used by millions world wide for the purposes of information, thus we should qualify as the press, and therefore we should have the freedom to write about what we choose. As many of you stated, if you discover something that you dislike, click the pretty red "X" in the top right hand corner...problem solved!
I love hubpages, as a whole, but this particular subject has always gotten on my nerves.
And I'm next in line for the rabbit I've always wanted to try one of those!!!
Tom i'm done with the lotion bottle, clean as a whistle. but toady's next in line.
That was great. But I am sorry I started that whole cleaning thing. What was I thinking?
First things first. At the top of the page on each hub you will see a link which takes you to the thumbs up or thumbs down button. There is also a flag button. Use the flag button if you believe something is pornographic. It really is the best way. Stop writing about all those hubs. It opens you up for ridicule and maybe retribution. This advice is free fo charge.
Thumbs up? Thumbs up what? I'm not at all sure this thumbs thing is acceptable.
All in all I've found Hubpages one of the most mature memes, top down on the internet. From the administration to the most frequent writers, there is a strong group holding this entire site. I find it refreshing that because of this strong sense of respect for writing, there is an allowance for hubs with more mature content, risque if you like that allows for those outside the lines to join in and share their talents. Not everyone wants to write about their pets, politics, religion or finance. Being elitist and won't help with the expansion of this site. It has become a great refuge for fantastic creative writers, and wanna be writers who learn from talented people.
There is some garbage on here, same with all sites. If I don't like a hub, if it bores me or offends me, I just find another. If there are writers who irk me, I make sure I don't include them on my fan list. Good to have choice. I currently have respect for the administration of this site, they're doing a great job.
Hey--I just don't look. A lot of it is like, sooo boring and obvious anyway. Not about the risque-osity, which can be good, but the fact that it is boring. Why waste time?
And agree with Tom...
Have any of you typed in the word sex on the search box? very interesting what one finds in there.
my right is tired and I'm not too good going at it left handed, what do I do?
I'm going to bed all, that rabbit wore me out! Goodnight and sweet dreams!
sweet dreams Gwen :)
toady - dont you have contortionistic abilities?
Jeez, what a controversial hub.
Yep, you said it. toad, use a toilet paper tube with KY. LOL
I'm at work, I'll have to use some pipe lubricant
Still working? god bless you for that.
I agree totally with Chris..please see above for reference.
Get rid of the porno feasts here, total pic slide shows, you can see them anywhere, but keep the naughty here. HAILLLL THEEE NAUGHTYYYY WE ARE ALL OVER 18 HERE AND BELOW 100.
Bring Constant Walker's wonderfully delectable hub back, there was good material in there. Chastise me if you wish, Hub control, but this is totally insane. As everyone is saying why aren't the purely visual ones condemned instead.
BlondePoet: I could not agree with you more and bring back Pest's Masturbation article it was hilarious as MASTURBATION is not a naughty word it is scientific.
Is that what it is AEvans. ROFLMAO, never heard it put that way before. LOL
This was a good hub to get traffic!! Was this a ploy?
Y'know what I think? If my wife really wanted to check out naughty hubs, I'd be really glad!
I think writing about sexuality, though, and the impact it has on people would be fine since it is such a part of our lives. But just from the standpoint of, "hey, look at this picture" adds nothing to the value of Hubpages.
Jewels: I think so lol.... And the traffic came and it flooded the earth..Lol:)
Oh C.C. ....Lol:)
Don: You hit it right on the nose , I could not agree with you more. :)
Don - very well put, I guess thats what I was getting at myself, thanks for the verbage!
Jewels - I somehow doubt that it was a ploy, this hubber appears to be quite wholesome
But the pictures we are talking about were humorous, no dirty or porno
I'm still stuck on AEvans' scientific masturbation idea. I'll have to really explore that....
Tom, maybe she's referring to the female kind?
no I think she's referring to the term. "Masturbation" is the technical/scientific term for well...jacking off.
yea AEvans Im with you on the masturbation, bring it backkkkkkkk
I don't like this notion that some goody two-shoes can dictate what serious writers want to write about, and the suggestion, expressed by some, to go find a different place to write makes me livid. Why don't YOU go find someplace else to go, where everybody lives in a little white house with a white picket fence and flower boxes under the windows and nobody locks their doors and the children all walk to school with their spiderman lunch boxes and peanut butter and jelly sandwhiches. Hey...that place sounds kind of nice. I'm outta here!
I think the difference between porn and amusing, slightly risque articles is huge. I believe that up to now hubpages management have acted responsibly but now we have a spate of pulled hubs and I believe that not enough objective assesment is being done!
Pass the bunny and lotion please.
Sorry Sue if you took offense. But good move, you have all these great writers visiting you.
Hi Sue,
I've had a few Mary Whitehouse moments myself when glancing through new hubs, but mostly I ignore the more offensive hubs. I agree that those that breach HubPages own codes should be flagged, but some 'smutty' content can be very amusing, such as Pest's Masturbation Hub, which made me laugh for days after I read it.
BTW Sue, I see you are a UK writer. Are you in BristolBoy's UK hubber's hub? If not, get on over there and make yourself known!
Sue, I can only speak for myself, and I have no problem with anyone saying how they feel or sharing their views about anything; however, it's a totally different thing when people take it upon themselves to impose their feelings on the rights of others by flagging hubs just because it doesn't fit their personal view of what's appropriate or in accordance with the rules here. And I'm talking about innocent, humorous, non-pornographic hubs like Pest's and Constant Walker's hubs being flagged and taken down. Enforcement of the rules is the job of HubPages and not vigilantes.
I have been noticing this too and have been very unhappy that Hubpages allows this type of material. I understand they want this place to be a free location for everyone to create hubs but some of these are just not what most people want to see here.
-Christoph - You just described Leave it to Beaver (can I expand on the pun there?!) or maybe Father Knows Best? - there's a sick joke about that one too ... get it? "Father"/priest, pedophilia.
Wow, those old shows were sick!
Sue: You did a great job on this hub and thanks for letting us express our opinions, I am certainly happy that you did not deny anyone freedom of expression or speech.:)
Ok, is it just me or does the "sex in prison" hub sound either really interesting, or plain sick?!
The Indian girls is a huge problem, although I get the impression that without it, Hubpages overall traffic would probably drop quite a bit!
They need to go though.
Sue: I must admit, I kinda suspected you of flagging a certain hub but I was not sure. That is why I did not participate in the flood of comments. I am glad that I didn't because even though you're a self-righteous party-pooper, you seem nice.
I should come clean too. I did suspect you as the one behind the flagging "incidents" that has been going on. Good thing I have two more suspects! LOL :D
One particular hub was taken down yesterday due to a hubber flagging it. It was a humorous hub dedicated to other hubbers. It consisted of pics of people's rear ends.
"Enforcement of the rules is the job of HubPages and not vigilantes."
It's not being a vigilante to flag, though, surely? That just brings it to the attention of TPTB.
I've never flagged, apart from one hub for blatant spam
Just for the record. Flagging a hub doesn't cause it to be taken down. Flagging a hub causes an alert to be sent to HubPages management. they then review the hub that is flagged. After reviewing they decide whether to pull it or not. One of my hubs was flagged probably 25 times within a couple days after it was published. It was never pulled. Management will only pull those that go against the TOS of Hubpages.
I think expression comes in many forms, and HP is a really cool place to read or write just about anything. If HP becomes so sensored that you can't turn your head and cough w/o getting pulled, I'm outta here.
As for the Indian Girls; really - get rid of 'em! They aren't even hot! There's a reason they aren't international sex symbols already.
And you all can keep your bunny... I'm sportin' a jackelope with a starter motor. ;)
Cris A: I thought so too, but after reviewing and seeing her comment and not eliminating any of them, I realized what a wonderful person she is as it couldn't be her, She is a good person. :)
London Girl & SirDent: Isn't the desired end result of the flagger is for the hub to be taken down? Why else would you flag? I think we all know that the flagger is not the one who takes down the hub.
I flagged a hub once. Only because it was blatant word-for-word plagiarism.
Well it nice to see an intelligent free exchange of ideas. But we still have a problem here on hubpages and I think it needs addressing. BTW I also suspected that you might be the "phantom flagger".
Yes you do. from the hub pages management as I understand it.
The only reason I knew my hub was flagged was because I was told so in comments. You don't really know for sure that your hub has been flagged unless someone tells you they flasgged it or management takes it down.
Sue, you're a real sport. Thank you. :) And I'm also happy to know you're not the phantom. :)
@ Londongirl...you're right, and imadork answered as I would have. I suspect that there are some 'iffy' areas where hubpages doesn't consider certain material to be in violation of the rules, but they evidently must act if a hub ends up getting flagged as offensive. I can't think of any other reason for some of these recent hubs (especially two that were up and published for months with no problems) to be taken down.
I got flagged once, that I know of. Hubpages told me that I needed to edit my title and add content or it would be taken down. I unpublished it on my own. If one's hub is flagged they will look at it and make a determination as to what should or should not be done.
CCR- Really!!! you got flagged. I don't know what somebody finds objectionable in your hubs but then I am not sure why and what about the hub in question.
Sue- Usually I think any form of visual nudity which is depicting private body parts should be considered adult. Besides that as far as the content is concerned it depends again what somebody considers "adult" others may consider it educational or literature. But then flagging the hubs is the best we can do and then leave it up to the appropriate folks to take that call. Thumbs up for a thought provoking hub.

I think most of the pages I have never visited.. now you have tempted me to visit those pages to see the content..
